Something Real
Try to do something real today
something that makes the birds listen
and the stones sigh,
something that causes your bones
to smile.
Don’t dance that crazy puppet dance
again,
moving to the sound of what the world expects of you
grooving to the voices
that preach fear
or glitter and dreams.
Do something gentle
or kind,
do something wonderful or strange,
move like a wind in the grass of a spring meadow
or listen to distant waterfalls as you ride the bus.
Speak with words that cause your heart
to vibrate
or maybe weep and feel the river tracks
cut valleys and gorges
through the landscapes of your life
building ecosystems
and playgrounds for new life.
Do something real
something that breathes and sighs and rises.
Savour these moments,
love them,
for it may be so
that when the end comes
and all the fairy lights of a human life
lived in the dream world
start to go dark,
one after another,
it may just be so
that most of your crazy puppet dancing
is gone
as if it never was,
revealed as empty space
that frames those few points of light,
bright and enduring stars
formed when life heard your voice
and you heard life,
singing her song
and urging you to join the harmony
of the choir of all things
silently spiralling poems and symphonies
of light
in praise of the source of the one love.
