Bringing the forest home

As long as I can remember the things that I have loved the most are words and stories and building with wood. My company is called heartwood because the work that I do aims to bring the deep grain and the natural beauty of wood to the surface. To incorporate the organic lines and flowing curves of the tree into our homes, our furniture and our lives. Most of the material that I work with is locally sourced from a forest managed with respect for diversity and eco system. The planks are cut at home on my own sawmill and then planed and polished to allow the inherent beauty to rise and be made visible. I have built altars and spiral staircases, furniture and frames, houses and playgrounds. The red thread that binds them together is the wish to bring nature into our homes and create an effortless art that arises from the wood itself.
